First off, from the entire crew of NW Explorations we wish you health, safety, and peace during this season. It will truly go down in history as a trying time for many of us. Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted by this crisis.
We continue to posture our company for the inevitable rebound in the tourism industry. We have weathered many storms, both literal and figurative, over these past 20 plus years in the business. While unique, this is a storm nonetheless, and the other side has calm seas waiting for us all.
NW Explorations not only provides one of the most unique charter experiences in the Pacific Northwest, we offer yacht service, brokerage, and training as well. Because of the variety of services we provide, we’ve put together this update covering each aspect of our business. Keeping you as best informed as possible to our state of operations.
The health of employees is paramount. On 23 March, WA State Governor Jay Inslee issued a “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, possibly to be extended beyond 8 April. All NW Explorations staff are working from home with the exception of a select handful of Marine Service Technicians, looking after the safety of vessels under our care. These technicians continue to follow all safety precautions issued by local, state, and federal authorities.
Our staff remain available for all of your needs via email and phone, which are listed in the sections below. If you are not able to get through, please leave a detailed message and we will get back to you in a timely manner.
Closure of the U.S./Canadian border to all non-essential travel, and State/Provincial park and marina closures in Washington State British Columbia have placed all charters on “standby” status until further notice. The majority of our flotilla charters (Alaska, Princess Louisa, and Desolation Sound) are not scheduled for departure for months ahead. With this in mind, when given the all clear, we are able to depart within 14 days of that notification. At the same time, we understand the uncertainty of events as they unfold, and are adjusting to meet this challenge.
We are working with guests to reschedule booked charters. While we continue to monitor the situation closely, we continue to ensure everything is immediately ready when restrictions are lifted; allowing our customers who are eager to get out and explore to do so. We encourage you to reserve your spots now in anticipation of the demand once travel is again permissible. For any new charters booked for the 2020 season, if the situation does not improve as you near your reservation, we will gladly assist you in rescheduling or receiving a refund.
A select handful of our Marine Service Technicians in Squalicum Harbor, WA, and Canoe Cove Marina, BC, continue to look after the safety of the vessels under our care. We have scaled back our non-essential service to work critical systems projects as our focus has shifted to preventative measures towards potential sinking, fire, and vandalism.
As we continue to monitor the safety of our own fleet, we understand others cannot do the same due to the situation at hand. We are extending our Winter Watch services to those in the surrounding areas. Our technicians are available to address any critical issues which may impact your vessel, those around it, as well as factors potentially damaging to the environment.

Our brokerage team continues to work with existing clients from their home offices. Each is fully available to discuss your needs, whether you are buying or selling.
Due to travel restrictions for non-essential workers, yacht surveys and price assessments have been postponed until further notice.
All of our scheduled powerboat training courses for April have been rescheduled for May.
In the meantime, we encourage you to reserve your spots for summertime, as our training courses sell out fast. If the situation does not improve as you near your reservation, we will assist you in rescheduling or receiving a refund.
