*All courses pre–board Friday evening around 5 pm; training is Saturday through Monday.
The Power Boat Training Course was developed due to the overwhelming requests by clients who had the desire to be more proficient at powerboat operations or wanted to become qualified to skipper their own charter boat. Many boating courses are taught in a classroom. This course is all “hands-on” to give you the practical skills necessary to charter your own yacht. Some of the skills which will be covered include:
- Twin engine maneuvering & docking
- Picking up a mooring buoy
- Anchoring
- Basic navigation & route planning
- Emergency procedures and VHF communication
- Diesel engine basics
- Power management and ship’s systems
The cost of the course is $995 per person and also includes moorage fees and food for all but one dinner.
Women Only Course
A recent survey by Boat US indicated that many women believed there weren’t enough boating educational opportunities tailored for them specifically. They prefer to learn in more relaxed settings, perhaps away from a well-meaning spouse. Many of our clients concurred, so to meet that demand, NW Explorations developed “Women Only” sessions. While the course is equally substantive, the atmosphere is relaxed and we have fun! Please call us for more information.
Interested in private instruction?
We are happy to accommodate you for private instruction on your boat or ours. Instructors are $300/day plus the cost of the boat if you are using one of our yachts. Call us to arrange private training or why not charter for a week and have a skipper come along with you for the first few days until you and your skipper feel you are ready to take the boat on your own?
