It was another beautiful morning in Chemainus, and with a 0900 departure, there was time to head back into town for a morning cup of coffee. Anne on Grand Adventure chose to spend her morning beach combing. But by 0845, we were all on the docks ready to throw off the lines and get underway for Friday Harbor.
The cruise through the Canadian Gulf Islands was stunning on this clear summer day. And to make it even better, we were surprised by a pod of Orcas coming around Cherry Point. Captain Rich spotted them off our bow. Unfortunately they were moving pretty fast and headed in the opposite direction, so we didn’t get to hang out with them for very long.
We crossed Boundary Pass into San Juan Channel and were reminded that we were back in civilization, as the boat traffic increased dramatically. Friday Harbor itself was equally busy so we carefully picked our way over to the US Customs dock. We had to wait a short while before everyone could get on to the dock, but in the end, it all went smoothly, and in a short while we were on our way to the inside of the breakwater to tie up for the evening.
Dream Catcher had headed back to Bellingham, which left only three boats in our group. We had a quick organizational meeting, and came up with a potluck dinner plan. The food was excellent! What a nice way to spend our final evening out at sea. Tomorrow we’d be headed back in to our final destination of Bellingham!
