2018 Mother Goose Alaska Flotilla: Leg 1, Day 2 – Sidney, BC Lay Day

The tide was in at the Port of Sidney when Mother Goose crews awoke on a sunny, Sunday morning.  Many crews utilized their lay day to have a rare slow morning and complete last-minute provisioning at the local grocer.  Tim, Fiona, Meg and Matt of Patos along with Jean, Michael and John of Discovery, took the opportunity to enjoy the nearby sights in Victoria. Our first destination was the beautiful Butchart Gardens- a limestone quarry turned botanical bonanza. Resplendent with rhododendrons and bumble bees, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stroll through the 106 year-old gardens.

After visiting the gardens, guests enjoyed lunch and a meander around historic downtown Victoria.  It being a holiday weekend, in honor of Queen Victoria’s birthday, the streets of downtown Victoria were filled with parades and onlookers. Depending on your outlook it was either a great day to be in the city or a great day to be out of the city. After a full and relaxing day all crews, hopefully, are sleeping soundly prior to our ambitious 5:30 am departure to Port Renfrew.

Finally, we are happy to note that our number of Goslings increased by two today; Lisa and Grace joined their parents on Grand Adventure. Welcome Lisa and Grace!
