Mother Goose fleet could barely contain our excitement for our grizzly tour with Prince Rupert Adventure Tours during our lay day. We packed up our cameras, snacks, and cards- just the bare necessities- and jumped onto a big yellow catamaran tour boat. Prince Rupert Adventure Tours took our group into the K’tzim-a-deen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, an area protected specifically to preserve grizzly bear habitiat. Unlike black bears, brown bears do not do well when their habitat overlaps with human populations. Brown bears, or grizzlies, need large foraging area to sustain the 100lbs of food they need to eat everyday!
Our group had a full days of bear sittings. First, we watched twin juvenile bears romping in a field, then we spotted a lone juvenile foraging for grasses and finally on our way home we came upon two adult grizzlies mating. In addition to bear activity, our group had the good fortune of being in the path of a foraging humpback whale. On our way home, we spotted dozens of eagles along the shoreline. Whales, eagles and bears, oh my!
