2018 Mother Goose Alaska Flotilla: Leg 4, Day 7 – Cannery Cove to Tracy Arm Cove

Mother Goose awoke in Cannery Cove to a cool, quiet morning. With a final look back at the mountainous island forest hung with misty clouds, the fleet departed and made way for Tracy Arm Cove.  As the fleet approached Tracy Arm, crews started spotting icebergs looming out of the mist with intense, glacial blue stark against the grey, calm water.  And then, the sound of a humpback surfacing slowed the fleet to an excited idle. The group spotted one fluke, then another! The humpbacks surfaced again and again their majestic slate colored bodies stark amongst the blue ice. What a uniquely Alaskan experience.

The fleet arrive in Tracy Arm Cove by late afternoon and settled into a comfortable six-boat raft. Once comfortable, crews joined Deception for a scrumptious potluck dinner that could only be described as a feast! Discovery’s, Bill and Barb, brought over a piece of a glacier to be enjoyed in our cocktails. Grand Adventure kindly opened up their boat for additional seating, and socializing. Happy and well fed, crews started back to their own boats for a well-deserved nights rest. On the way, however, Grand Adventure’s crew spotted a brown bear cub foraging on the shore.  The last thing we all saw before heading to bed was a little bear trundling back into the forest for a good night sleep. Sweet dreams, Alaska!
