2018 Mother Goose Alaska Flotilla: Leg 4, Day 9 – Taku Harbor to Juneau

Mother Goose awoke to Taku Harbor alive with the sight and sound of fishermen getting ready for a day’s work. Our stately Grand Banks (and one lovely Kadey-Krogen) slowly picked a path through the well-worn and hard-working fishing boats and then started north to our final destination of Juneau. By noon we reached the Alaskan state capital and the last stop on our trip. The harbor reflected the city in the summer; bustling, loud and with a distinct fishy aroma! Our crews fueled their boats, and then tied up for the last time. Slowly we all adjusted to being back in “the real world”, as one crew member put it, savoring the lingering feeling of remoteness one gets when out at sea.

Several crews decided to extend their adventure by staying a couple extra days to explore Juneau. With a beautiful alpine glacier, Mendenhall Glacier, and more miles of hiking trails than roads, Juneau has much to offer the adventurous traveler. That afternoon crews packed up and bade their boats, their steadfast sea worthy homes, farewell. And with bags packs, there was nothing left to do but say goodbye to friends and fellow travelers. To all the crews that travelled with us through SE Alaska these last 10 days- fair winds and following seas! It has been our pleasure to be your crew!
