While all of Southeast Alaska has been shaped and influenced by glaciers, you don’t get to really wrap your head around it until you get close to them. Today we left Taku Harbor and headed south through Stephens Passage towards Holkham Bay and Tracy Arm. Tracy Arm is one of Southeast Alaska’s spectacular fjords. Our plan Is to enter the fjord and anchor at Tracy Arm Cove for the night. Tomorrow we will make our way to the end of the cove to get some great views of the glacier. As we made our way into the entrance to the fjord, we saw bird activity where the water from the pass and fjord mixed. This area always sees a lot of mixing which usually concentrates food in the water for sea birds and other animals.

Once we entered the fjord, we immediately started to see little icebergs. They always look unreal, like misshapen turquoise gemstones gently floating in the water. We loved getting a look at a few as we headed toward our anchorage, excited for another day tomorrow.
