Today we had a transit from Thomas Bay to the town of Wrangell, Alaska. We passed where we started at Petersburg and transited through Wrangell Narrows until we reached the other side of Mitkof Island and headed east toward Wrangell.

On our way we spied the Steller Sea Lions hanging out on the red can marking the entrance to the narrows. These might be the same ones we spotted on our first day headed out of Petersburg! Hey guys!

We waved at our old friends and headed on. After we exited the narrows and headed east towards Wrangell Island, we could see the change in the waters color to turquoise as we neared the mouth of the large Stikine River.

We started to notice some Harbor Porpoise swimming in the channel around us. We had already seen some Dall’s porpoises earlier in the trip so it was cool to see the other species of porpoise here in Alaska! We soon made it to Wrangell, where we will spend our lay day tomorrow. We ended our evening with everyone going to Pamelican where her crew treated us to some very lovely beverages and snacks as the sun broke through the clouds for a beautiful Alaskan summer evening. We talked about all the exciting things we are going to try and do with our day tomorrow!
