2024 Inside Passage Flotilla North – Day 17 Bottlenose Inlet to Bishop Bay

As we reached the Hiekish Narrows the current intensified, bringing us from a speed of nine knots down to six knots. Bald eagles could be spotted periodically in the treetops, their white heads standing out boldly against the sea of green. The sky was simultaneously bright and encompassed by fog, with the silhouettes of the hills fading gradually in the distance. A serene stillness could be felt all around us, with the wispy clouds hovering low on the tree line and dozens of small waterfalls scattered along the shore.

When we got to Bishop Bay a few people decided to go fishing and drop their crab pots, which resulted in a successful harvest. Arctic Star alone caught seven crabs big enough to keep, allowing for a little feast.

The main attraction of Bishop Bay was their hot springs, located a little way up the shore. A short boardwalk led us to a little bathhouse with two soaking pools. One of the pools was out in the open, which allowed for a refreshing soak in the rain. The other pool was enclosed by a little shelter and was decorated with mementos left by past visitors. Carved wooden signs and signatures covered the walls, while a variety of signed buoys hung from the ceiling. Tucked away in the trees with a view of the bay, it was the most relaxing way to end a long day of traveling.
