2024 Inside Passage Flotilla North – Day 21 Prince Rupert to Foggy Bay

We had a little bit of an earlier start leaving Prince Rupert this morning to account for potential winds. The sun started to peek through the clouds, painting the sky with a warm and soft yellow tinge. As we left the dock, we saw a few lone eagles spread out along the shore, perched atop light posts and treetops. Seagulls speckled the rocks surrounding the Canadian coast guard lighthouse we passed, like white polka-dots.

The sun came out in the evening at last, which was a lovely surprise after the few days of rain we had. It felt good to bask in the rays and soak it all up, enjoying the moment while it lasts.

We finally made it to Alaska today, an exciting milestone of our trip! We even had a black bear to welcome us in! When we got to Foggy Bay, we saw a couple more black bears along the shore. With nobody else in the bay, it really felt like we were getting the true Alaskan experience, surrounded by remote wilderness. We got out in our dinghies to get a closer look. With three black bear sightings in one day, it was a pretty thrilling and successful first day in Alaska.
