2024 Inside Passage Flotilla North – Day 4 Prideaux Haven to Octopus Islands

The weather was ideal this morning as we prepared to leave Desolation Sound. With the sunlight sparkling on the water and the clear, blue skies framing the mountaintops, we could not have asked for a more enchanting start to our day. Two curious seals came to bid us farewell, gliding across the shimmering surface. As if that wasn’t cute enough, shortly after we passed by a few spotted harbor seals sprawled out on the rocks, soaking up the sun rays.

The boats followed behind Deception coasting across the water in a triangle formation, with the statuesque Mt. Denman in the background. The scene was truly a sight to behold.

To reach our destination, we had to sail through the infamous Hole in the Wall channel. Known for its intense rapids, it was important to get the timing of our passage just right. Back eddies and whirlpools provided some entertainment as we strategically maneuvered in an “S” shaped pattern along the currents.

We made it to Octopus Islands safe and sound, ready to anchor and call it home for the next couple of days. No Agenda and Arctic Star were up for a little exploration, getting their kayaks and dinghy out on the water, while the rest of the boats took the opportunity to get a little downtime. Settling in for the night, we were all looking forward to the whole day of adventure that awaited us.
