The smell of cinnamon wafted into the bay at Turnbull Cove as the crew on Deception delivered warm fresh cinnamon buns to each boat. An hour later, we were all under way headed to Port McNeil. The town was originally established as a base camp for loggers, becoming a settlement in 1936. It’s named after Captain William Henry McNeil of the Hudson Bay Company.

Pamelican crew celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary with us and we all cheered. On route, a group dinner was announced as Patos crew were leaving the flotilla the following day and all would be together for one last meal, graciously suggested and taken care of by Bonum Vitae.

As we headed out on the three hour journey, we maneuvered slowly through some heavy fog. Fog forms when warm, moist air flows over cold water, which is common. Fog horns on, radar too and eyes wide open, we traveled carefully together until the fog lifted. As we approached North Island Marina, in Port McNeil, each boat called in for their slip assignment and dockhands were ready and waiting to help. Perfect docking from every boat. Most were off their boats and into town for groceries and a light lunch. Dinner at 6pm was attended by all in the small town, population 2,000. A fun night with a lot of laughs. Everyone appreciated the kind gesture from Miguel.
