A relaxing lay day in Octopus Islands Marine Park. Some rain fell but that didn’t stop us. We went by dinghy to see the famous fisherman’s driftwood cabin, skipping the hike and planning to do it in the morning as we would have a later start to travel through our last narrows at nearly slack tide. Returning from the cabin, all were excited to share what they had seen.

The little cabin is covered in driftwood pieces that people have written on over the years. There are boat burgees hanging everywhere. We made a plan to sign and hang a NW Explorations burgee and place it in the morning. Someone had placed a treasure box in the cabin and many had left bottles with notes in it. We planned to leave a bottle with as many wishes as we could fill it with too. In order to create our driftwood cabin treasures, we would have to have a social gathering on Deception. That was another gift created by this little cabin adventure. The opportunity to all gather at 5pm and get crafty was met with anticipation. We had a lot of laughs, some snacks, and created our burgee and messages or wishes in a bottle. Tomorrow morning we would place the treasures and sneak in a little hike before heading to Redonda Island.
