After signing the NW Explorations burgee and filling a beer bottle with wishes and messages the night before, we were eager to travel over to the driftwood cabin by dinghy to place our crafts and leave our mark with all the others at the small cabin on Octopus Island. A beautiful morning and plans to pull up anchor at 11am allowed us time to visit the cabin and travel across the water to hike through the beautiful rainforest. The lush ferns and tall pines with dappled morning sunshine was appreciated.

We were soon back at the boats to untie from each other and begin our journey. All boats maneuvered well through the strong current. The captains enjoyed the challenge and were happy to be lead by Captain Tim. Slack tide is the only time to travel through the narrows.

We boated to Teakerne Arm Provincial park and hiked up to Cassel Lake. The hike was challenging, with chains mounted in the rock for support. A well known swimming hole was enjoyed by many. Sixty eight degree water some said was warm enough in the fresh water lake. The large waterfall, flowing out of the lake into the ocean was breathtaking, and all boats passed in front for a photo.

Squirrel Cove was our next adventure. The trek was calm and sunny, and we were happy to see a little corner store with all amenities including a gas ‘station’ with decorative gas pump. The locals were kind and some provisions were purchased. All enjoyed dinner at anchor with a four boat raft.

The stars were the brightest that we had seen on the trip and the northern lights were once again visible.
