And we’re off again! With fresh faces and renewed energy, the Leg 3 flotilla launched from Sitka ready to embrace the wild wonders of Southeast Alaska. After a productive day of provisioning, boat briefings, and a cheerful meet-and-greet aboard Deception, our new group set out into a soft morning fog—an eerie but beautiful welcome from the sea.

Not long into the journey, we encountered our first hiccup. Thankfully, Brian was quick to resolve the issue and get everything running smoothly again—just part of the adventure! As we cruised onward through the mist, humpbacks surfaced alongside us, offering a quiet thrill to start the leg.

Upon entering Appleton Cove, the skies cleared just enough to bathe us in late-afternoon light. Black bears patrolled the shoreline, and guests took to their dinghies to explore the serene anchorage. Crab traps were dropped, cameras came out, and a peaceful evening unfolded as the sun dipped behind the trees.
This leg promises incredible beauty—and if today is any indication, we’re off to a fantastic start.
