After five glorious days of sunshine, we were met with a classic Alaskan mood—rain and fog shrouding the landscape in a mystical calm. We departed the quiet charm of Three Mile Arm and set our sights on one of the most dramatic destinations of the trip: Fords Terror.

Along the way, a breathtaking humpback show broke through the mist, reminding us that even on gray days, Alaska delivers unmatched magic. Timing was key today, and we arrived at the rapids just right—slipping through during slack tide to avoid the turbulent surges that make this area so infamous.

Once inside the protective arms of Fords Terror, guests were left in awe by the towering granite walls, plunging waterfalls, and deep quiet that defines this hidden fjord. A brief raft-up allowed for some minor repairs and maintenance, including re-aligning Arctic Star’s anchor and—against all odds—recovering a headpiece that had fallen into the water.

The rest of the day was spent simply soaking it all in. Whether from the deck or a dinghy, the tranquility of Fords Terror settled over us like a soft blanket, inviting everyone to breathe deep and marvel at nature’s grandeur.
