We set out from Shearwater Marina under overcast skies and calm waters, a quiet and peaceful start to another day of exploration along the Inside Passage. While the sky stayed soft and gray, the waters and surrounding shoreline offered no shortage of wildlife and wonder.

As we cruised, guests spotted an impressive range of animals. Porpoises danced through the water near the boats, while sea otters floated in the kelp beds and bears wandered along the shore. Eagles soared overhead, and of course, our ever-present companions—the lounging “rock sausages” (a.k.a. harbor seals)—claimed their usual spots on the rocky outcroppings.

A few guests took time to stop and fish, and the efforts paid off; several caught fresh fish to enjoy for dinner, adding a delicious and satisfying reward to an already rewarding day.

We arrived at Rescue Bay by early afternoon. This serene anchorage offered an opportunity for guests to explore by skiff, weaving through small inlets and discovering hidden corners of the bay. The calm setting, coupled with the excitement of spotting wildlife and catching dinner, made for a day that felt both relaxing and rich with experience.

As evening settled in, boats rested quietly at anchor, surrounded by towering trees and still water. Day by day, this journey continues to offer a balance of adventure and reflection—and today was no exception.
