2025 Inside Passage Flotilla North – Day 2 Sidney to Pender Harbour

Day two of our flotilla began with an early departure and a breathtaking cruise up the Sunshine Coast. True to its name, we were met with clear skies and golden morning light as we traveled approximately 70 nautical miles north.

As we made our way through the Strait of Georgia, we were treated to distant views of Vancouver’s skyline shimmering on the horizon. The water was calm and spirits high as we approached one of the more technical stretches of the day: Gabriola Passage. Thanks to the expert timing and steady hand of Captain Bill, we navigated the narrow channel right at slack tide, making for a smooth and seamless crossing.

Along the route, we were greeted by several bald eagles soaring overhead and our familiar friends, the ever-curious harbor seals, popping up to check us out.

We arrived safely in the serene waters of Pender Harbour, a peaceful and protected anchorage perfect for an evening of rest and rejuvenation. With the sun still high and the water calm, guests took time to relax and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding them. The quiet cove offers great opportunities for wildlife watching—eagles, harbour seals, and even the quirky black oystercatcher, a coastal bird ironically named for a diet that rarely includes oysters.

After another successful day on the water, our crews are soaking in the stillness of Pender and looking forward to what lies ahead.
