Day three brought us deeper into the wild beauty of British Columbia’s Inside Passage, and it did not disappoint. As we cruised north, Western Rock came into view, covered with a lively colony of Steller sea lions and sleek black cormorants. We took a moment to talk about the differences between the Steller and California sea lions—a fascinating conversation sparked by the impressive display of these marine mammals hauled out and vocalizing.

Adding to the day’s highlights was a rare sighting of the military training vessel Grizzly 60 underway. A reminder that these waters are shared not only by adventurers like us but by those in service and training as well.

As we entered Desolation Sound, we were greeted by towering mountains that seemed to rise endlessly from the sea. The awe was unanimous; these rugged peaks and the dramatic depth of the water around us offered a humbling reminder of the raw, untouched beauty of this part of the world.

Once anchored in the calm of Melanie Cove, the crew of Bonum Vitae hosted a delightful happy hour in celebration of a fellow guest’s birthday. Laughter echoed across the boats as we shared stories, sipped drinks, and soaked in the rainbow-lit skies above—yes, there were rainbows!

The evening wrapped up with a memorable moment of community spirit: while our dinghy crew was out making rounds, we found ourselves in need of a little rescue, and it was the ladies of Bonum Vitae who came to our aid. Thanks to quick teamwork and a handy on-board mechanic, the issue was resolved quickly and spirits remained high.

As the sun dipped behind the peaks, excitement began to build for tomorrow’s adventures, kayaking and hiking from Melanie Cove to Unwin Lake await. Every day seems to bring a new favorite moment, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
