2025 Inside Passage Flotilla North – Day 6 Octopus Islands to Forward Harbour

We began the day in near-perfect conditions; the waters leaving Octopus Islands were calm and glassy, making for a peaceful start to the morning. As we made our way north, we passed several open-net fish farms, prompting a discussion on their role in the local ecosystem. One of the more fascinating points? Marine mammals—particularly orcas—have learned to time their visits around these farms, treating them like all-you-can-eat buffets.

Right on cue, we were rewarded with a stunning orca sighting. In one captured photo, three distinct orcas are clearly visible gliding near the fish farm; the timing could not have been better. Shortly after that unforgettable moment, we spotted a black bear along the shoreline, calmly foraging. These rare glimpses of wildlife remind us how alive and untamed this coastline truly is.

Navigating the Johnstone Strait, we encountered its signature swirling currents; our crews handled the passage smoothly, showcasing growing confidence and skill. By late afternoon, we reached Forward Harbour, where we were welcomed by panoramic mountain views and the stillness of a tucked-away anchorage.

The evening was quiet and restorative. Guests took the opportunity to rest, reflect, and enjoy the slower rhythm of the anchorage. With a later start planned for tomorrow, everyone is looking forward to a relaxed morning before we continue our northbound journey.
