Today’s trek was breathtaking, truly worthy of awe. The way the light played on the trees and rocky islands, among the mist and the fog. The weather was so dynamic – patches on blue sky and sunshine intermingled with heavy rains and greys. The wind picked up as we made our way out of the protected islands, and we had a blast navigating in the choppy conditions.

We passed many sea otters, sea birds, and as we passed into Tahsis narrows, we were extremely lucky to witness a family of orcas socializing and playing. There was a young one breaching and splashing, again and again, and you could see the elder family members slapping their tails, swimming upside down, and enjoying their little one. It was delightful to experience! We were beaming and laughing along with them.

A shorter travel day today, we had time in the small village of Tahsis to pick up a few groceries, go for walks, runs, and explore. There are at least three rivers flowing through Tahsis, with a big, beautiful estuary at the entrance to town. Many eagles were around, perched on telephone poles, houses, and the dock. The herons were fishing on the young herring schooling in the marina. We then all gathered for dinner at the Westview Marina, spending the evening trading copious stories and observations.
