A spectacular sunrise in the bay this morning, sunlight illuminating the treetops, the fog, stark against the tall cliff faces. We all met up early, 730am, and explored the shoreline inside and around the bay. Looking at stunning surroundings; trees, intertidal critters, plants, schools of fish, rivers, sunshine, and sea. And so many smiling faces! We hopped off to explore a waterfall, scuttling along the yellowy green rockweed, to the pebbly beach, then onto the mossy forest floor. We timed our exploration perfectly with the sun’s rays, layers of light peeking through the canopy. Piper and Lucy enjoyed their sprint through the brush. Sword ferns, deer ferns, and so many species of moss, including Olivia’s favourite stairstep moss.

There were a few rivers rushing into the sea, and we nosed in with our dinghies as far as we could. Some old cabins and logging equipment here and there. At high tide we took our kayaks up the Watta Creek, paddling through the river valley. We went as far as we could, until we ran into some rapids that only Quinn could get through! John and Olivia tried and got sucked back down stream. Tony gave a good try too and went for a little dip! The sun kept shining, and we had a beautiful sunset. It was really nice to spend some time exploring in place. Tomorrow we head to Ucluelet to reprovision and explore the quaint town.
