ALASKA 2016: Leg 7 – Friday Harbor to Bellingham

Today is the last day of our journey and the last day of 2016’s Mother Goose Alaskan Flotilla. As we cruised though the San Juan Islands, across Rosario Strait, and into Bellingham Bay under the shadow of Mt. Baker and in behind the breakwater at Squalicum Harbor. Safe and sound, with the boats back in their old slips, we cut the motors one last time and thought back. We covered over 5,000 nautical miles, from Bellingham up the inside passage, though Southeast Alaska, across the Gulf of Alaska and in to Prince William Sound, and then back home again via Haida Gwaii. Through glacial ice, tidal rapids, rocky shallows, drifting logs, howling gales and thick fog; through countless sunny days and mirror calm seas, past breaching whales and leaping dolphins, through ancient forests and under snow-clad peaks; we did it all safely and managed to have an incredibly good time doing it! A huge congratulations and thanks to all who participated in this years Mother Goose Flotilla! We hope to see you all again soon!
