We cast off the docks this morning for the final time on our journey.  All the boats were underway by 9am and headed back home to Bellingham.  We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day on the water.  We had blue skies, sunshine and calm water all day.  The perfect weather made it hard to accept that our trip was at an end.

Today’s route took us on a tour of the San Juan Islands before we crossed over to Bellingham.  The Washington State Ferries buzzed between the islands, looking picturesque on this beautiful day.  Since the day was clear, we also had great views of the OIympic Mountains and Mt. Baker.  It was a great way to end the trip.

Once back in Bellingham, we refueled the boats and settled in on the docks.  What an adventure this has been!  We’ve had great weather, incredible wildlife sightings, and wonderful company on this journey from Ketchikan to Bellingham.  It is hard to believe that the trip is over, but we are leaving with amazing memories and great new friendships.

So, it is back to reality we go.  Back to work for some, and back to normal routines for most.  There will be many excited pets and friends and family to greet at home.  We have had so many unforgettable moments on this trip.  Most of us are already trying to figure out how we can come back!

We had one last event all together this evening, a surprise birthday party for Jack!  Our group was joined by some of the NW Explorations staff and we all shared a delicious dinner at Anthony’s.  What a wonderful conclusion to our voyage together.
