Desolation Sound 2023: Day 10: Gorge Harbour to Lasquitti Island

As we are now making our way south we went on the opposite side of Texada Island as when we were heading north. There is an impressive view of the limestone quarry form this side of the island, but the clouds were too low hanging to see the whole thing. We did however see part of it as we sliced through the waves on our way to Lasquitti Island.

Today was a good day to stay warm and cozy in our boats. The rain persisted into the afternoon as we all anchored. Today was the first day we all anchored separately as there wasn’t a good place for Deception to stern tie. Some days it is nice to let your world slow down and take up the pace of the trees, waves, and sheep(?) you are surround by.

An interesting sight while on Lasquitti or Jedadiah Island are feral sheep that have taken up residency on the islands. There were homesteads on the islands that had orchards and domesticated sheep. Although those families no longer live on the islands and it is now a provincial park, the sheep still call the islands home.
