Mother Goose 2019: Leg 3: Day 7: Meyers Chuck to Ketchikan

We woke to sunshine warming our faces this morning!  It was a glorious, still morning in Meyers Chuck.  Puffy white clouds were reflected perfectly on the calm water.  The tide was way out and the houses and docks all stood on their stilts above the rocky shore.  Cassy, the postmaster, brought over a batch of her famous sticky buns.  We sat in the sunshine contentedly drinking coffee and eating the homemade pastries still warm from the oven.

Clarence Straight was glassy calm this morning.  As we traveled, we were greeted by more playful Dall’s porpoise jumping through our bow wake.  We also spotted a few humpback whales along the way.  It was perfect weather for our last day out!  Sunny, clear and calm the whole way.

As we got closer to Ketchikan the boat traffic picked up and we navigated through the bustling waterway with ferries, tour boats, sea planes and tugs all around.  First stop was the fuel dock and then on to the Ketchikan harbor.  We arrived to the harbor in the early afternoon and enjoyed relaxing on board in the warm weather.  Some of the crews walked into town to explore.

We all met up for dinner at Annabelle’s to have one last meal together before we go our separate ways.  We shared a nice meal and great conversation.  This has been a great trip and a wonderful group of people to cruise with.  We look forward to cruising with them all again in the future!  Until then, fair winds and calm seas from the crew of Deception.
