The Quest to Build the Perfect Cruising Yacht

As a lifelong boater, experienced broker, and accomplished builder, Greg Sturgis kept a running list of ideas he wanted in the perfect cruising yacht. This list of “must haves” and “don’t ever do this” came from a lifetime of being out on the water. Another source of wisdom and insight came via Greg’s sixteen year career as the east coast distributor of Offshore Yachts. While there, he helped oversee all phases of construction on these high quality causing yachts.

With tons of tried and tested wisdom, Greg approached the late Tom Fexas, renowned yacht designer, to discuss building the perfect yacht. The year was 1994, and their ideas were put on hold until fifteen years later. In 2009 their efforts resulted in the what could be considered the most thoughtfully designed passage maker the Pacific Northwest, the Out Islander 64 Long Range. It would be the very last yacht Tom Fexas ever designed.

If there’s something on your own “must have” list, you’d be hard-pressed not to find it on this yacht. Nearly every square inch has been thoughtfully designed with a purpose in mind. Think of it as the intersection where a multi-tool and luxury sedan cross paths. True versatility, comfort, and style and rolled into one. That’s why we were excited to welcome “La Vida” into our charter fleet earlier this year. She makes a fine addition to our growing fleet of exceptionally maintained yachts.

La Vida accommodates six guests in three separate staterooms. A master cabin with walk-around king bed, private head and walk-in shower. A forward guest stateroom with walk-around queen bed, and a guest VIP suite with dual bunks, shared head and walk in shower. Perfect for a family vacation, or couples to experience our cruising area in complete comfort.

Other items which make La Vida a truly versatile expedition vessel appointed with everything you need – whether for a week or a month include her large salon for hosting, ice maker, 800 gallon per day water maker, bbq, deck shower, washer & dryer, air conditioner, full size fridge, trash compactor, and twin generators.

Her five operating stations including two wing stations, along with full hydraulic bow and stern thrusters and stabilizers aid in docking. Twin anchor windlass; full stand up height, air-conditioned engine room; and max speeds of 19 knots are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to features. This vessel can really do it all!

For those looking to take family of friends on an extended outing amongst the San Juan Islands, or even in Alaska this summer, La Vida is available for charter. Contact us today to learn more.
