Our training courses offer the best of both worlds:  learn how to skipper your own yacht, while enjoying a short vacation in the Gulf Islands.  Learn new skills, build confidence, and make new friends.

These all-inclusive experiences include hands-on training, lodging, and nearly all your meals.  Theory materials, when certifications are desired, are purchased online to be completed prior to arrival.

What You’ll Learn

Perfect for groups, couples or solo mariners, these courses offer hands-on training from some of the most knowledgeable and friendly instructors in the business.  Everyone who joins one of our sail training courses will learn:

  • Basic Navigation & Route Planning (Coastal Navigation Certification)
  • Emergency Procedures, Basic Radio Use, and Crew Safety Protocols

Pricing & Dates

All pricing is per person. To share a cabin with a friend, the second person sharing your cabin enjoys a 35% discount.  All courses have a 3-person minimum.  Private courses are always available if additional dates are desired.

3-Day Training – Sail (Sidney B.C.)

Refresh and Prepare for Your Upcoming Cruise

Join us for 3 days to refresh your skills or prepare your crew for an upcoming cruise.  Spend your time focused on docking, close-quarters boat maneuvering, anchoring, instructing crew, and refreshing your Coastal Navigation skills.

Prerequisites & Certifications:  This training is designed as a refresher for people who want to brush up on their skills and learn new techniques.  This can also be a great opportunity to learn how to become a skilled crew member.  Some experience is preferred to get the most out of this course – for beginners, theory materials are available.  For individuals seeking to obtain Coastal Navigation practical certifications, this is a great way to ensure that you have your credentials for your next charter or for your insurance requirements – all theory materials must be completed at the time of arrival.  This course has a 3-person minimum.

What’s Included:  Your own cabin (unless you choose to share with a friend). PFD – unless you choose to bring your own. Fully appointed cabin with linens and towels. Lots of fun. Probably a new friend or two. Hands-on training you’ll enjoy for a lifetime. 

What’s Not Included:  Inflatable PFD. Alcohol. Sailing Gear (shoes, rain gear).    

Meals:  Breakfast and Lunch each day.  Dinner as outlined in the Schedule.

Schedule:

Thursday Preboard (the night before) starting at 3.  Settle in, familiarize yourself with the boat, and getting to know one another.  Dinner on your own (many people like to eat together once they meet their crew and skipper).

Friday (Day 1): Docking, Line-Handling, Close-Quarters Maneuvers.  This is a day with lots of time at the helm learning a variety of techniques and ways to manage and prepare your crew. Dinner on Board.

Saturday & Sunday (Day 2 and 3): On-water exercises include anchoring, sail trim, Crew Overboard practice, and a Coastal Navigation refresher.  Disembark by 4 p.m.  (Option to stay aboard Sunday night if travel plans require). 

 

Cruise & Learn – Sail (Group Courses)

On-Water Liveaboard Courses to Gain Certification

Opportunities for all levels to learn and grow.  Our instructors will meet you where you are on your experience journey.  These on-water liveaboard courses allow you to cruise and learn along the way.  Select your environment and experience the very best that the B.C Coast has to offer while you gain competencies, achieve certifications, and build your resume. 

Prerequisites & Certifications (Crew/Day Skipper):  No experienced required.   This course has a 3-person minimum.

Prerequisites & Certifications (Advanced/Bareboat Skipper):  The equivalent of Crew/Day Skipper coursework or a minimum of 30 days aboard another vessel over the past 2 years. This course has a 3-person minimum.

Training Materials:   Theory materials are purchased online – workbook and online formats are available. To assure success, completion of your theory materials prior to your arrival is recommended to get the most out of your on-water practical experience and achieve the desired competencies necessary to gain certification. 

What’s Included:  Your own cabin (unless you choose to share with a friend). PFD – unless you choose to bring your own (Advanced Course participants should plan to bring their own inflatable PFD, Harnesses & Tethers). Fully appointed cabin with linens and towels. Schedule:

Days Aboard.  Day 1 begins your journey with on-board briefings and a group discussion to finalize the itinerary based on the arrival and departure locations.  Each night will enjoy a new port of call, whether at anchor, secured to a mooring ball, or on the docks.  Breakfast and lunch included each day with dinner.

Disembark on Last Day at 2 p.m.

You choose the boat. You choose the dates. You pick your crew.

All trainings can be customized to accommodate a group.  Private courses allow for varying levels of skill and ability to create an engaging experience for everyone aboard.

Instructors know how to create a learning vacation for you and your group, as intense or relaxing as you would like, that will help you engage your whole group for a lifetime of sailing or just a great vacation.

Cancellation & Rebooking Policy

Full payment is due at the time of registration.  All balances due at time of reservation. Cancellation policy: If you cancel your reservation 45 or more days before the start of your course, your reservation will be refunded in full less $100 handling fee. If you cancel within 45 days of the start of your course, you will forfeit your tuition. Please note that each class must have a minimum of three students registered. If we need to cancel you will receive a full refund or may choose to reschedule your class to another time.
