2024 Inside Passage Flotilla South – Day 6 Bishop Bay Lay Day

Bishop Bay Hot Springs did not disappoint. The water was warm; softened by minerals and fortunately lacking the smell of sulphur. Buoys and burgees hang over the man made hot tub, including a NW Explorations flag from 2022. The cement tub was poured in 1960 by volunteers to collect the water for soaking in. What a treat.

Most started the morning with a planned dinghy ride at 10am. We headed to Monkey Beach about a half hour ride away for some exploring. The beach was full of treasures. Some animal bones and many shells were found. In some areas of the beach, shells were crushed to make sand. A small First Nations cabin was on the island too. The island was named after a Sasquatch sighting by an indigenous person. The island has an old growth rain forest and a warm sandy/shelly beach. Although deer, wolves and bears are in the area, we did not cross paths. Another whale and a beautiful blue heron were spotted. Some went for a dingy tour to see if today was their lucky day to spot a bear. Bears at this time of year are full from salmon and spend more time inland, but we can hope.

After kayaking and dinghy adventures all spent the afternoon enjoying the day at the Hot Springs and buying crab licenses so they could set their pots.

High tide at 10:30pm at 4.75meters and 1.18 meters in the morning is anticipated.
