Day four of our journey brought a welcome lay day in breathtaking Prideaux Haven, and what a day it was! From sunrise to sunset, we were blessed with brilliant sunshine and calm waters; perfect conditions to explore, relax, and recharge.

The morning began with kayaking excursions for those eager to paddle the peaceful coves. Guests glided through clear waters, mesmerized by the gentle pulsing of moon jellyfish and the rare sighting of a lion’s mane jellyfish drifting below. One of the day’s highlights? A hooded nudibranch dancing delicately at the surface, captivating everyone lucky enough to spot it.

Later in the day, our noon kayaking group was treated to a special sighting of black-tailed deer along the shore. We also took time to discuss the importance of preserving eelgrass beds in this area, explaining why anchoring is restricted to protect these vital underwater ecosystems.

In the afternoon, eleven adventurous guests joined a guided hike through the surrounding forest. The trail, labeled “moderate,” quickly reminded us that the West Coast definition of moderate includes some good climbs, tricky footing, and plenty of natural beauty. At the top, the reward: a refreshing lake swim for those brave enough to take the plunge!
After hiking back down and returning via shuttle boats, the group warmed up with celebratory shots of Fireball on the dock—an unexpected but spirited end to an already full day.

As evening settled in, sea lions made an appearance in the cove, and guests gathered on decks and docks to take in the golden light reflecting off the water. The sense of camaraderie, wonder, and anticipation for tomorrow’s leg of the journey continues to build.
